Age 13, I auditioned for a place in the Dorset Youth Orchestra, in which I competed at national and international level for 5 years. I also performed with the ‘Big Little Touring Theatre Company’ as a professional musician during my A-Level studies.
At Exeter University, I accompanied various students in their recital performances and regularly performed with the University Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble. I also played in the pit orchestra for Gilbert & Sullivan and Footlights Stage productions at the Northcott Theatre.
I was the pianist for the University Jazz Orchestra, where I met my now husband, who was lead guitar. We performed together at University balls, private functions, local music venues and even on stage at Euro Disney.
Since 2002, I have been performing with the Devon Philharmonic Orchestra (previously known as EMG Symphony Orchestra), a very large high calibre amateur orchestra in the South West.
I have experience playing in string quartets and as a pianist for weddings and corporate events and have accompanied ballet classes and exams.
I teach from a pupil centred perspective...
Tailoring lessons according to individual interests and ability.
Approach I follow a teaching framework that gradually introduces new musical concepts and instrumental skills. I teach primarily classical, jazz and popular music, though the term classical music in itself is rather all encompassing.
In order to create well-rounded musicianship skills, I try to incorporate theory, improvisation, technique, notation and aural development into lessons, using age appropriate ‘play’ to reinforce concepts in enjoyable ways. It is important to me that lessons are fun and I hope to share my lifelong passion for music making with my students.
Exams Examinations are not compulsory, but if students are interested in obtaining formal recognition for their progress, the studio follows both the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Music Teacher's Board (MTB) exam syllabus. We currently have a 100% pass rate for exams!
Recitals The studio holds an annual Summer term recital to offer the opportunity for students to perform and showcase their progress to a loving and supportive audience of friends and family.
